Executive Summary

GMG Africa is a UK-based geothermal origination and early-stage de-risking company focused on high-enthalpy opportunities in East Africa. The company applies oil-and-gas exploration discipline to an under-served part of the geothermal value chain: identifying promising resources, securing rights, reducing geological and commercial uncertainty, and preparing projects for investment by larger geothermal developers, IPPs and strategic partners. GMG’s model is deliberately capital-efficient. We aim to create value before expensive exploration drilling and power-plant development by progressing projects through licensing, technical screening, surface studies and partner diligence, using grant and DFI funding where available. The objective is to monetise through farm-in/farm-down transactions, development consideration and retained project interests rather than funding full development from the GMG balance sheet. Ethiopia is the initial anchor market, where independent legal diligence has confirmed the licensing pathway and GMG is progressing prospect selection and route-to-rights work. The platform is designed to be repeatable across suitable African jurisdictions, with a shadow-country strategy providing geographic optionality. GMG is raising a £475,000 pre-seed round, comprising £400,000 of external investment alongside a £75,000 founder subscription on the same terms. The funding will support an approximately 18-month programme focused on prospect selection, rights acquisition, technical governance, GRMF and other non-dilutive funding readiness, and preparation of partner-grade investment materials. Founder and CEO Tom Newell brings approximately 20 years of Sub-Saharan African upstream exploration, licensing, asset-management and joint-venture experience, followed by senior leadership in an early-stage UK natural-capital business. GMG is seeking investors who understand exploration risk, African infrastructure, energy transition and the value created by disciplined early-stage project origination.
