Tom NewellBiography
As Founder and CEO, I lead GMG Africa’s strategy, capital raising, stakeholder engagement and overall execution. My role draws on over 20 years of African upstream exploration, licensing, joint-venture and asset-management experience, applying that discipline to geothermal origination and early-stage de-risking. I am responsible for prospect and country prioritisation, government and investor relationships, commercial structuring, team building and capital allocation, while ensuring technical work is independently governed by experienced geothermal specialists. My focus is to build GMG into a credible, capital-efficient platform that can originate, secure and advance geothermal opportunities to the point where larger development partners can take them forward.
Company Overview
GMG Africa is building a new kind of geothermal company: a lean, exploration-led originator designed to find, secure and de-risk high-enthalpy opportunities before capital-intensive drilling. Our first focus is Ethiopia, where we are advancing prospect selection, licensing and a GRMF-led funding pathway while raising a £475k pre-seed round. EGICS is exactly the room we need: investors, developers and strategic partners who understand that geothermal value is created well before a power plant is built. GMG would bring a frontier-market perspective, disciplined oil-and-gas exploration thinking and a partnership-led model aimed at turning overlooked African geothermal prospects into investable projects at scale.
