usWanana: Africa’s Mobile Peer Prediction & Skill-Based Social Gaming Marketplace

Finding Investors for a Business

AIDB-024499

Executive Summary

Wanana is a peer prediction marketplace built for African users, starting in Nigeria. People take positions on the outcome of real world events across politics, sport, business, entertainment and culture. When the event resolves, the pool settles and the people who called it correctly share the proceeds. The mechanic is parimutuel. Everyone who backs a question contributes to one shared pool, and there is no house taking the opposite side of any position. Wanana never wins when a user loses. We earn a transparent, disclosed fee on each settled pool, which means our revenue scales with volume and engagement rather than with user losses. This is a prediction platform, not a betting platform, and that distinction shapes the product, the pricing and the regulatory posture. Why Nigeria, and why now. Nigeria has one of the youngest, most mobile first populations in the world, deep familiarity with digital wallets and instant transfers, and an enormous appetite for opinion driven conversation about football, politics, music and business. What has been missing is a credible, transparent venue where that opinion carries a stake and a settlement. Global platforms in this category have proven the model at scale but do not serve African payment rails, African event calendars or African cultural context. Wanana does. Product and technology. The MVP is live. It runs on Supabase with edge functions handling pool logic and settlement, which keeps our infrastructure cost low and our deployment cycle fast. Payments run on Paystack and Flutterwave, so users fund and withdraw through the rails they already trust, including bank transfer and card. Event creation, pool accounting and resolution are all in place. The stack is deliberately lean so that most of the capital raised goes into market building rather than infrastructure. Revenue model. A percentage fee on each settled pool. Secondary lines open up as volume grows: sponsored and branded event markets, media partnerships around major fixtures and elections, data and sentiment products built on aggregate market signals, and premium features for high frequency users. Because the core fee is volume linked, unit economics improve as liquidity deepens on each question. Regulatory position. We are treating licensing as a moat rather than an obstacle. We have scoped the Nigerian licensing pathway and budgeted approximately NGN 30 million to secure it. Operating licensed, with clear settlement rules, published fees, KYC and responsible use controls, is what allows Wanana to partner with media houses, brands and payment providers that will not touch an unlicensed operator. The ask. We are raising $200,000 to take Wanana from live MVP to a liquid, licensed marketplace with a repeatable user acquisition engine and eighteen months of runway. Use of funds: licensing and compliance, product hardening and settlement automation, a small core engineering and community team, creator led growth in Lagos and Abuja followed by a second Nigerian market, and liquidity seeding on flagship markets so early users always find a pool worth joining. Who we are looking for. Angel and pre seed investors, strategic partners in payments, media and telecommunications, and operators with distribution into Nigerian youth audiences. We are also open to advisory participation from anyone who has built a regulated consumer financial or gaming product in an emerging market. The company is founded and led by Paul Okeoghene Omugbe, a finance and technology executive based in Lagos. He holds FCA, FCCA, CPA, FMVA and PMP credentials, is Immediate Past President of the PMI Nigeria Chapter, and operates Venix Partners Limited, an NCC licensed value added services company. Wanana is structured as a standalone entity.
