Executive Summary
Green Health & Development Cooperative (GHDC) is a Burundi-based, member-owned cooperative established on 12 February 2024 to develop scalable businesses at the intersection of sustainable agriculture, livestock, environmental services and the circular economy. GHDC is developing an integrated household waste management and organic valorization business that combines waste collection, sorting, recycling and conversion of organic waste into productive-use outputs. Following initial field testing, GHDC is now seeking USD 1.5 million in growth capital to scale operations, invest in collection and processing infrastructure, expand geographic coverage, strengthen commercial operations and build a financially sustainable circular economy platform. The investment will contribute to cleaner communities, reduced uncontrolled waste disposal, resource recovery, green job creation, improved livelihoods and climate resilience. GHDC aims to demonstrate a commercially viable model that can be replicated across Burundi and subsequently expanded into other markets in the region. GHDC seeks USD 1.5 million in growth capital to scale its circular waste management and organic valorization business in Burundi. Funding will support collection, sorting, processing infrastructure, equipment, working capital, geographic expansion and commercial scale-up. GHDC is led by a locally based founding and management team combining public health, cooperative management, community development, agriculture, livestock and environmental experience. Proposed Investment Transaction — max. 300 characters GHDC seeks USD 1.5 million in growth capital to scale its circular waste management and organic valorization business in Burundi. Funding will support collection, sorting, processing infrastructure, equipment, working capital, geographic expansion and commercial scale-up. GHDC is currently in an early-stage growth and scale-up phase. The cooperative has undertaken initial field activities and pilot testing related to integrated household waste collection, sorting and valorization, while simultaneously developing its sustainable agriculture and livestock activities. The business is transitioning from field validation toward a more structured commercial model. GHDC is seeking USD 1.5 million in growth capital to establish the infrastructure, equipment, working capital and operational systems required to scale the circular waste management and organic valorization business. The investment is expected to materially increase revenue-generating capacity through waste collection services, recyclable material recovery and the commercialization of products generated through organic waste valorization. At this stage, GHDC does not present itself as a mature, highly profitable company. The investment proposition is based on the significant growth potential of the business model, the increasing need for structured waste management solutions in Burundi, the value of recoverable materials and the potential to develop multiple revenue streams while generating measurable environmental and social impact. Detailed historical financial information, budgets, investment assumptions and financial projections can be provided in the Data Room for investor due diligence. Burundi is facing a growing need for improved urban and household waste management, resource recovery and environmentally sustainable development. Rapid urbanisation, population growth, increasing consumption and limited waste-management infrastructure create both an environmental challenge and a significant market opportunity for commercially viable circular economy solutions. GHDC is targeting the emerging market for integrated waste collection, sorting, recycling and organic waste valorization. Rather than treating household waste solely as a disposal problem, GHDC's model seeks to recover economic value from waste streams by separating recyclable materials and transforming organic fractions into productive-use outputs. The addressable opportunity extends beyond waste collection. A scalable circular economy platform can generate revenues from collection services, recovered recyclable materials, organic waste-derived products and partnerships with municipalities, institutions, businesses, farmers and development programmes. The model also creates opportunities for green employment and participation of local communities and cooperative members. GHDC's initial strategy is to establish a commercially sustainable model in Burundi, beginning with priority urban and peri-urban areas and progressively expanding geographic coverage. Once operational systems, unit economics and processing capacity have been strengthened, the model has potential for replication in other markets facing similar waste-management and environmental challenges in the Great Lakes and East African region. The investment opportunity is therefore positioned at the intersection of environmental infrastructure, circular economy, climate resilience, agriculture and inclusive economic development. GHDC intends to combine commercial discipline with measurable environmental and social outcomes, including waste diverted from uncontrolled disposal, materials recovered, organic waste valorized, jobs created and communities reached.
