I'm the Founder & CEO of Zarafa Pictures, where I'm building a portfolio of prestige, female-led African feature films & TV shows for international distribution, and financing it with the discipline of someone who came up at Goldman Sachs and McKinsey before moving into film. I can speak to African film as both a creator and an investor, to the emerging dynamics in international distribution, and to where capital actually flows in prestige independent production.
Company Overview
Zarafa Pictures has film projects that have been on the Academy Award shortlist, won an NAACP Image Award, won a South African Film & TV Award. We also have work with Netflix and HBO Max. Africa holds an extraordinary reservoir of distinctive storytelling IP, yet the pathways for financing it and taking it to global audiences remain fragmented and undercapitalised. Zarafa Pictures is building a curated portfolio of commercially compelling African screen projects with enduring cultural value: developing valuable IP, using focused development and packaging capital to leverage larger pools of production finance, and building long-term value by participating in rights and revenues across licensing, streaming, broadcast, theatrical and remakes. E-Squared Investments has been an anchor investor in Zarafa Pictures since 2023. They have just committed a $500k credit facility for film projects.
