Company Overview
Off-Grid Europe GmbH (OGE) is a German renewable-energy technology, engineering and project development company focused on delivering reliable energy infrastructure in markets where grid availability, energy costs and access to electricity constrain economic development. Founded in 2010, OGE has more than 15 years of off-grid energy experience and combines German engineering and technology with an established African operating presence through Off-Grid Africa in Dakar, Senegal. The company develops and delivers renewable-energy projects spanning solar PV, battery energy storage systems (BESS), mini-grids, commercial and industrial energy systems, rural electrification and solar-powered cold-storage infrastructure. OGE provides an integrated project capability covering feasibility and system design, project development, engineering, procurement and construction (EPC), financial structuring, commissioning, operations and maintenance (O&M), training, and long-term monitoring and control. Proven African Execution Track Record OGE has progressed beyond the technology-development stage and has demonstrated its ability to execute energy infrastructure in Africa. Across its global activities, the company reports more than 300 commissioned projects, over 35 MWh of battery storage and more than 10 MWp of installed photovoltaic capacity. A major reference is the ASER300 rural electrification programme in Senegal. OGE has participated in the programme since 2020 and established its Senegalese subsidiary, Off-Grid Africa, as part of building its local implementation capability. OGE states that it has delivered more than 200 mini-grids under the programme, demonstrating the company’s capacity to manage multi-site infrastructure deployment in challenging rural environments. This track record is important to OGE’s next phase: rather than developing African projects as a new market entrant, the company is building its pipeline on existing engineering expertise, local implementation capacity, operating experience and proven large-scale deployment. African Project Development Pipeline – Seeking Funding Partners OGE is now expanding from individual EPC assignments into a broader project-development model, building a pipeline of distributed renewable-energy infrastructure projects across Africa for which project finance, debt, equity, blended finance, export finance and other suitable funding structures are being sought. The pipeline is centred on replicable infrastructure solutions that can be deployed across multiple sites and countries rather than relying solely on one-off bespoke installations. A principal development area is Much Cooler, OGE’s modular, 100% solar-powered cold-storage solution. The concept targets one of Africa’s major agricultural infrastructure constraints: inadequate cold-chain capacity and the resulting post-harvest losses. Systems are designed for applications including farmers, cooperatives, aggregators, food producers and logistics operators, with modular storage capacities ranging from approximately 300 to 5,000 tonnes. OGE has actively invited African agribusinesses and development partners to identify and develop Much Cooler projects and has indicated financing of up to 85% may be available for qualifying projects. This creates an opportunity to aggregate multiple cold-chain projects into a larger financeable portfolio. The scale of the opportunity is illustrated by OGE’s involvement in a cold-storage initiative in the Niayes region of Senegal. Under an initiative involving Senegal’s Ministry of Industry and Trade and Africool, plans announced in 2025 envisaged approximately FCFA 170 billion of investment across 10 cold-storage sites, with OGE responsible for renewable-energy integration. The announced concept includes approximately 50 MW of solar generation and is structured as a public-private initiative without direct state funding. The programme addresses post-harvest losses reported at 30–40% for key crops such as onions and potatoes. Alongside cold-chain infrastructure, OGE is developing opportunities for commercial and industrial solar-plus-storage, battery energy storage and decentralised energy systems. Its Ohms Box provides a modular platform combining 265 kWh of LFP battery storage, 100 kVA bidirectional power conversion, transfer switching, thermal management and OGE’s IoTEM monitoring technology. Multiple units can be deployed for larger installations, allowing the technology to support C&I customers, mini-grids and other distributed infrastructure projects. The company is also continuing to pursue mini-grid and rural electrification opportunities, applying the implementation model and experience developed through Senegal’s ASER programme to new projects and markets. OGE’s proposition to project developers is explicitly built around taking projects from feasibility through EPC, financing support and long-term operation. Investment Proposition OGE is seeking financing partners capable of helping convert an identified and growing African development pipeline into operating infrastructure. Potential financing opportunities include project-level debt and equity, portfolio financing, development capital, export finance, blended-finance structures and co-investment alongside development finance institutions, impact investors, infrastructure funds, commercial lenders and strategic investors. The investment proposition combines several characteristics relevant to African infrastructure investors: • Proven delivery capability: 300+ projects commissioned and extensive experience deploying renewable-energy systems in difficult operating environments. • Established African presence: Off-Grid Africa provides local project execution capability from Senegal. • Demonstrated scalability: delivery of 200+ mini-grids provides a reference for managing large multi-site programmes. • Repeatable project platforms: mini-grids, modular BESS and solar-powered cold storage can be replicated across sites and markets, creating the potential for portfolio-based financing. • Productive-use focus: projects support businesses, agriculture, food security, rural communities and industrial customers rather than electricity generation alone. • Integrated project lifecycle: OGE can remain involved from feasibility and financial structuring through EPC, commissioning, O&M and digital monitoring, reducing the number of interfaces between project development and long-term operation. • Technology and operational monitoring: proprietary IoTEM monitoring and control provides real-time system performance, fault detection and operating data, supporting long-term asset management. Funding Objective OGE’s immediate objective is to connect its African project-development pipeline with investors and financing institutions that can provide the capital required to move projects from development and feasibility into financial close, construction and operation. The company is particularly interested in funding relationships capable of supporting multiple projects and repeat deployments, allowing individual opportunities to be aggregated into scalable investment programmes. This includes financing for solar-powered cold-chain infrastructure, C&I solar and battery storage, mini-grids, rural electrification and other productive-use renewable-energy assets. With more than 15 years of engineering experience, an established African subsidiary, proven delivery of large multi-site programmes and a growing pipeline of renewable-energy and productive-use infrastructure, Off-Grid Europe is seeking funding partners to accelerate the conversion of its African project pipeline into operational, revenue-generating and impact-oriented infrastructure.
