Executive Summary
Lelapa Recycling and Logistics (Pty) Ltd is a Pretoria-based, environmentally conscious enterprise established in 2022 to address the critical and growing need for comprehensive, accessible, and community-integrated recycling services. The venture originated from a direct observation of unmet demand for recycling diverse materials beyond traditional municipal services. Lelapa's core offering encompasses the collection, sorting, and granulation of a wide range of recyclables (PET, HD, PP plastics, aluminum cans, various papers, and plastic vehicle parts) from schools and businesses. These processed materials are then sold to companies for palletizing, closing the recycling loop efficiently. Our value proposition is uniquely strong: for schools, we offer sustainable income generation, educational empowerment through recycling stations, and an enhanced green footprint. For businesses, we provide convenient, cost-effective waste management solutions, significant Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) alignment, and tangible environmental impact. Our commitment is further solidified through our close association with Commserve Community Link, a Non-Profit Company (NPC) (PBO Number 930085579), approved on August 8th, which can issue Section 18A certificates for donations, offering valuable tax benefits to our partners. We are attempting to raise 1 Million $ US Dollars in donations to be able to build recycling stations for the start of the recycling program of 40 schools in Gauteng SA and with the possibility to expand. We would also purchase all the necessary recycling equipment and Tools CommServe School Recycling Program. Commserve Community Link a Non-profit Company invites your business to donate to our charitable innovative school recycling program and clean ups. Commserve is all about giving back to the community and education about environmental sustainability. With the guidance from “Lelapa Recycling, a small diverse Recycling company” we would be trying to help educate the community and job creation. We are passionate about a cleaner, healthier environment and would like to encourage others to join our cause! There is a total of 415 schools in Gauteng and the program will kick off in the Northern side of Pretoria with approximately 05 schools. Each school would receive 10-15 recycling stations depending of their needs. Benefits: * Environmental Impact: Reduce pollution and divert waste from landfills. * Educational Program: Foster environmental awareness among students and adults. * Community Giveback: Create jobs and generate income for schools and individuals. * Targeted Advertising: Reach a broad audience through prominent branded recycling stations placed in schools across Pretoria (with definite expansion potential). Lelapa recycling was driven on a Salary of a the owner who works at Metro Police and could not keep up and joined forces with Commsreve Comunity Link to enable a circular income and growth for both Overall Waste Generation: South Africa generated an estimated 42 million tones of general waste in 2017, with expectations of continued growth. The City of Tshwane reportedly collected over 1.7 million tons of solid waste annually from businesses (based on older reports, indicating significant volume). Low National Recycling Rates: Nationally, only 11% of general waste was recycled in 2017. For households, rates were as low as 5.2% in 2015, although higher in metropolitan areas (around 12.7% of urban households sorted waste for recycling). This highlights that a vast majority of recyclable material still ends up in landfills. Landfill Crisis: A critical driver for increased recycling is the dwindling landfill airspace across South Africa, with many sites having limited lifespans (5-10 years). The City of Tshwane incurs significant costs for landfill management and illegal dumping, creating a strong imperative for waste diversion. Underperformance in Small Businesses: Studies in Gauteng indicate that only 7-14% of small businesses actively recycle, with many not separating waste due to perceived lack of importance or financial implications. This represents a substantial underserved segment.
