Executive Summary
This is an integrated agribusiness venture dedicated to sustainable oil palm cultivation and processing in Ghana. It starts with the establishment of a 2,000-hectare oil palm plantation in the Eastern Region of Ghana, featuring a 10 tons per hour (tph) processing mill, a 200 kW biomass steam turbine for energy self-sufficiency, palm kernel oil (PKO) processing, and a crude palm oil (CPO) clarification plant. The project incorporates advanced irrigation systems to ensure consistent yields all year round. With Ghana's palm oil sector facing a stark imbalance—domestic consumption reaching approximately 250,000 metric tons annually while production lags at around 50,000 metric tons, resulting in imports exceeding 200,000 metric tons valued at over $120 million—we aim to bridge this gap. By Year 6, the project will produce 8,000 tons of CPO and 800 tons of PKO annually, generating $7.2 million in revenue and $100,000 in annual energy savings through palm kernel shell (PKS)-powered electricity. The initiative will create 225 permanent jobs, primarily for local communities including women and youth, and achieve Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) certification to access premium markets. We seek a $10 million in funding to get this project operational. The preferred form of funding is a loan but we are open to a mix of equity and loans. This project led by Newman Amoyaw and Ernest Mends (Crop scientist and agronomist), with technical partnerships from the Oil Palm Research Institute (OPRI) and Ghana Oil Palm Development Company (GOPDC). This is a new project. Hence we currently do not have a financial history. However our financial projections are healthy with an internal rate of return (IRR) of 13–23% over 6–15 years, with payback by Year 7. Ghana's palm oil market, valued at $293 million in 2024, is poised for rebound with a projected 9.90% growth rate in 2025, accelerating to 14.33% CAGR by 2029, fueled by population growth and biofuel mandates. Consumption stands at 250,000 metric tons annually, with production at 50,000 metric tons and imports filling the 200,000-ton gap. Global demand for palm oil reached 81 million tons in 2023, with sustainable variants commanding premiums amid RSPO growth. Government initiatives, including the $50 million Redgold project, underscore import substitution efforts. The target markets for our project are: Domestic (70% of sales): Food processors (e.g., Unilever), soap/cosmetic firms, and wholesalers; targeting 8,000 tons CPO to capture 3.2% of the market, Regional Exports (20%): ECOWAS partners in Togo, Nigeria, and Senegal, leveraging duty-free access. Premium International (10%): RSPO-certified buyers in Europe and Asia, securing 5–10% price premiums (After RSPO validation). Our output addresses 4% of the import gap (target of expanding to hit 40% mark), with potential for 15% market share in certified oil by 2030. Major players currently in this sector includes GOPDC( 21,000 ha, 60 tph mill, focused on outgrowers), Benso Oil Palm Plantation BOPP (Processes 115,566 tons FFB annually), Smallholders (Low yields and efficiency limit scale). Current market trends show a shift to sustainable sourcing, with RSPO demand rising 20% annually. And export growth with Ghana's palm oil exports reaching $41 million in H1 2025.
