Executive Summary
Lima-Plus is a digital climate-resilience platform designed to help smallholder farmers in Uganda adapt to the increasing impacts of climate change. The platform delivers hyperlocal climate insights, drought and flood alerts, adaptive agronomy guidance, and climate-smart market connections—equipping farmers with the information and tools they need to reduce losses, improve productivity, and protect their livelihoods. The agricultural sector employs over 70% of Uganda’s population, yet most smallholder farmers lack access to reliable climate information or practical adaptation support. Lima-Plus addresses this gap by combining climate intelligence with farmer-friendly digital tools, enabling scalable, cost-effective climate adaptation. Lima-Plus targets over 8 million smallholder farmers in Uganda, with potential to scale across East Africa’s 40+ million climate-vulnerable farming households. The solution aligns with rising demand for climate-smart agriculture, digital advisory tools, and last-mile resilience solutions. Our mission is to ensure that no farmer is left behind in the face of accelerating climate risks. Through partnerships with cooperatives, development organizations, and private-sector actors, Lima-Plus aims to build a sustainable, high-impact platform capable of transforming rural resilience at scale. Lima-Plus is seeking a seed investment of USD 50,000–150,000 to accelerate product development, deploy a 12-month pilot, and strengthen our climate-intelligence tools for smallholder farmers. The investment will be used for technology development, field implementation, climate-content integration. Geoffrey Kanyarwanda is an agritech entrepreneur and climate resilience advocate with over six years of experience in microfinance, rural development, and smallholder farmer engagement. His background in agricultural lending, portfolio management, and farmer-centered product design gives him deep insight into the challenges farmers face. He leads Lima-Plus’ product strategy, climate-content development, field validation, and partnerships—bringing both lived experience and professional expertise to building a scalable climate-intelligence platform. Geoffrey’s mission is to ensure no smallholder farmer is left behind as climate risks intensify. Pilot stage Uganda’s agricultural sector is the backbone of the economy, employing more than 70% of the population and contributing significantly to national GDP. At the center of this sector are smallholder farmers, who produce nearly 80% of Uganda’s food but remain highly vulnerable to climate shocks such as droughts, floods, unpredictable rainfall, and emerging pests and diseases. Climate variability has already reduced yields by an estimated 15–40% in affected regions, creating an urgent need for climate-resilient digital solutions. With over 8 million smallholder farmers in Uganda, the market for climate-smart agricultural solutions is large, underserved, and rapidly growing. Most farmers currently lack access to localized weather information, adaptive agronomy guidance, climate-resilient market connections, and digital advisory tools. This leaves a wide market gap that Lima-Plus is positioned to fill through a scalable, tech-enabled platform centered on climate intelligence. The wider East African region presents an additional 40+ million smallholder farmers facing similar climate stresses, creating a substantial expansion opportunity beyond Uganda. Governments, NGOs, and development partners are collectively increasing investment in climate resilience and digital agriculture, signaling strong ecosystem support and long-term demand for solutions like Lima-Plus. The shift toward digital advisory, climate-smart agriculture, and data-driven farming positions Lima-Plus in a fast-growing market segment with high scalability potential. Our model aligns with global trends in climate adaptation, green digital transformation, last-mile innovation, and agricultural resilience, making the addressable market both large and expanding.
