Dear Sir, Madam, The changes in the e-waste policies, both local and across the African continent are creating enormous opportunities to create sustainable, scalable, and environmentally friendly jobs in a circular economy. We are a company with 30+ years of experience in the remanufacturing of printer/copier consumables and the changes in policy are reviving the industry by restricting the import of single-use, Asian made printer cartridges. Historically we trained and nurtured over 2000 SMEs across the continent, but the industry was completely decimated by the cheap Asian imports. The new policies suddenly bring the remanufacturing/re-engineering back into the lime-light and we are interested to partner with regional leaders in e-waste to understand what opportunities there might be to re-establish production units to meet the local requirements for printer cartridges. In South Africa, the government can ONLY purchase original or remanufactured and can no longer purchase single-use imported product. This will be the same for all SADC territories, and the African Union released the Continental Circular Economy Action Plan, promoting the same. For obvious reasons this creates an incredible demand for locally manufactured product, but the technical training and understanding of the industry is lacking – this is where DeLace plays a key role. We have significant experience across the continent and are aware of the horrific quantities of printer and cartridge empties being discarded every day.
